What Are Hazardous Materials?

Businesses and organizations can't dispose of some materials in regular recycling or trash. The La Crosse County Hazardous Materials Program accepts many of these materials. In short, hazardous materials are any substance containing ingredients that could negatively affect your safety, health or environment. Signal words found on hazardous products include toxic, poison, danger, warning and caution.

Who Qualifies?
The La Crosse County Hazardous Materials Program can accept hazardous waste only from businesses and organizations that qualify as Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQG) of hazardous waste. A VSQG is a business or organization that generates no more than 220 lbs. of hazardous waste per month and stores no more than 2,200 lbs. of hazardous waste on site at any one time. A VSQG also must not generate more than 2.2 lbs. of acutely hazardous waste per month.

Registration and Pricing
New VSQG businesses must complete the VSQG Credit Application and Certification Form to register. These forms are used to collect contact and billing information and will be kept on file.

All VSQG businesses are required to submit a "Waste Requested" for Disposal Inventory Form" prior to scheduling each appointment. Waste items not included on the form or unknown materials/products will not be accepted by the HHM program until you receive formal approval.

These forms as well as pricing, are included in the VSQG Registration Packet, which must be completed by businesses before using the facility.
