Hillview Building

Hillview Health Care Center is a 60-bed skilled nursing health care facility owned and operated by La Crosse County.  Hillview primarily focuses on those in need of rehabilitation and short stay care needs.  The Oaks is a 10 bed State Only nursing facility within Hillview serving those who have a diagnosis of dementia with underlying behavioral needs.  Please see The Oaks tab for more information.

The residents and their families are our best ambassadors to the La Crosse community. With the help of these ambassadors, we have established a reputation on our campus for providing quality and compassionate care. Our staff take pride in building warm, trusting relationships with residents and families. We have the capacity to take care of those with higher needs, yet we don't lose sight of the importance and need to offer respect, emotional support and compassion.

The residents rate the food and social opportunities as outstanding. During the summer, many families and residents take advantage of our beautiful setting and enjoy our outside walking paths. Deer, ducks, geese, and many other animals are found on our campus.

Hillview Health Care Campus: A Year of Impact

The Hillview Health Care Campus has experienced a remarkable impact on our community members over the past year. Let’s delve into the numbers and developments that highlight our dedication to serving the community:

 Admissions and Discharges:

    • 2024: From January through April 2024, we’ve had an impressive 68 admissions and 64 discharges. This surge in activity reflects the tireless efforts of our nursing home staff, who have doubled the number of lives they’ve touched compared to the same period in 2023.
    • 2023: By contrast, during the same months in 2023, we had only 37 admissions and 34 discharges. The increase in 2024 truly demonstrates our commitment to providing care and rehabilitation to those in need.
  1. Focus on Higher Acuity Cases:
    • Hillview has long prioritized admissions of higher acuity cases—individuals seeking rehabilitation, education, and short-term recovery. In 2023, our skilled nursing home welcomed 136 admissions and facilitated 139 discharges.
    • Of those discharges, 105 individuals returned home or transitioned to another living environment, while 9 were discharged to hospitals, and 25 passed away.
  2. Anticipated Remodel in 2025:
    • As we move into 2025, the much-anticipated remodel of our campus will continue. We anticipate maintaining high turnover, with ongoing admissions and discharges.
    • Our nursing home will remain focused on providing specialized care for rehabilitation needs, aiming to help residents return home whenever possible. Those without a specific discharge goal may find our Assisted Livings more suitable.
  3. The Oaks at Hillview:
    • Our 10-bed Behavioral Health nursing home, The Oaks at Hillview, opened in January 2022. We’re proud to report that our first full State DHS survey resulted in zero citations on the Health Survey and only 2 citations on Building codes, promptly addressed. This underscores the quality of care we provide.

In summary, Hillview’s growth, dedication, and commitment to the community are evident. As we look ahead to 2025, the anticipated remodel promises to enhance our services further, ensuring Hillview’s continued success in serving those in need.   I am very thankful for the support of our residents, families, staff, and community through this exciting transition.

Sincerely,

Kelly Kramer, NHA
