Document recording cut off time is 3:30pm.  All documents received after this time will be recorded the next day.

Vital Records applications will be accepted in-person Monday thru Friday (except holidays) from 8:00am until 4:00pm. Counter customers applying after 4:00pm will have their applications processed next day.

Genealogy research is by appointment only and available search times are Tuesdays Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm.  Please call the office to schedule an appointment at 608-785-9644 or 608-785-9645.

Mission statement: 
  1. To provide the official county repository for:
    1. *Real estate records (deeds, land contracts, mortgages, etc)
    2. *Vital records (birth, death, marriage, domestic partnerships, divorce, and military discharges)
  2. To provide safe archival storage and convenient access to these public records.
  3. To implement statutory changes, system modernization, program and procedure evaluation and staff development to assure a high level of timely customer service for our citizens


Public Relations Information:

We provide application form(s) for vital records. We can supply the website address to complete an online transfer return for real estate conveyances. We have information on where to obtain birth, death and marriage certificates for those outside of Wisconsin. We give informational tours for local area schools including Western Wisconsin Technical College, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and the Genealogical Society.
