Disease Prevention and Control

 

Some diseases and conditions can affect public health. These are called reportable diseases. When someone is diagnosed with a reportable disease, the local health department will call the client to follow up and answer questions. If you would like to learn more about the communicable disease reporting requirements in Wisconsin, please click here.

Reportable Disease Lists (click here for list)

  • Category I:  Diseases in this category need urgent attention and should be reported IMMEDIATELY by telephone to the patient’s local health department.
  • Category II:  These diseases should be reported within 72 hours of diagnosis.
  • Category III: This category relates to HIV infection and AIDS which should be reported within 72 hours of diagnosis.
