School Absence Surveillance: La Crosse County Health Department partners with local school districts to monitor student and staff absences. The goal of this program is to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and increase student attendance. To enroll in the program, send a request to [email protected]

What does school participation look like?  Each week, an assigned school worker will report the number of respiratory and gastrointestinal related illness absences to the Health Department using an online form.  At the end of the week, we send a report to schools.  The report shares overall absence rates and lets schools know if particular illnesses are circulating.  The report includes a graph throughout the year to track trends and changes week to week.  A portion of the one-page report is dedicated to resources and illness related support for the school staff.  See examples here.
