Notary Fraud Alert

La Crosse County is proud to offer a free Notary Fraud Alert service to commissioned notaries.

Notary fraud and identity misuse are increasing across the country.  In some cases, a notary's name and commission information are used without their knowledge on documents submitted for recording.  This can expose notaries to legal, financial and reputational risks.

When a document is submitted for recording in the La Crosse County Register of Deeds Offices that includes your name as the notary, you will receive an alert.

This allows you to:

• Be notified when your notary name appears on a recorded document
• Quickly Identify potential unauthorized use of your notary credentials
• Take prompt action if your information has been misused

While the alert does not prevent a document from being recorded, it provides an important layer of awareness and protection.

We are offering this service at no cost to reinforce our commitment to protecting the integrity of recorded documents, support commissioned notaries, promote transparency and accountability and help prevent fraud before it escalates.
