A: We are located at 3240 Berlin Drive- North on HWY 16 past Woodman’s. Turn right on Emerald Drive, then left on Berlin and take the 2nd right turn to the Landfill scale.

Q: 3. What are your hours at the landfill?
A: Summer: April 1st – October 31st
Monday – Friday 6:30am to 4:30pm. 1st & 3rd Saturdays 9am to 12pm.
Winter: November 1st – March 31st
Monday – Friday 7am to 4pm.
Q: 4. Are you open on the weekends?
A: Yes, during summer hours (April 1st until November 1st) we are open the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 9am to 12pm.
Q: 5. Do you recycle?
A: Yes. Most of the materials dropped off in the processing pad area are recycled or diverted.
Q: 6. Do you allow people to salvage?
A: No. For safety reasons we do not allow people to salvage once waste is placed in the bins.
Q: 7. Are there people to help me unload?
A: No. You provide your own labor to unload your items.
Q: 8. What are your prices?
A: There is a $5.00 minimum fee to use our residential drop-off area or $120 per ton.
There is a $15.00 permit fee and $64 per ton to use the Landfill.

Q: 9. My trash didn't get picked up this week, who should I call?
A: Call your city office or your trash hauler directly.
Q: 10. I'm not a La Crosse Resident, can we still bring things to the Landfill?
A: Yes. We accept refuse from La Crosse and surrounding Counties.
Q: 11. Is the cost different if I’m not from La Crosse County?
A: The La Crosse County Landfill service area includes – La Crosse, Trempealeau and Buffalo Counties in WI and Houston and Wabasha Counties in MN. For waste brought to the landfill (or Xcel) from outside our service area will have an additional $10/ton service fee.
Q: 12. Do you take old lawnmowers?
A: Yes, the gas and oil need to be drained before disposal.
Q: 13. I have old metal, can I bring it there?
A: Yes. We have a recycling container for metal. There is a $5.00 minimum fee to drop it off.
Q: 14. What is a tipping fee?
A: A tipping fee is what we call the cost to use the landfill. Not tipping the scale attendants.
Q: 15. Do you take yard waste?
A: Yes. We take yard waste. (leaves, grass clippings, dirt, brush, etc.)
Q: 16. Do you take mattresses and what is the cost?
A: Yes. Mattresses are $13/item + weight.
Q: 17. Do you take asbestos and what is the cost?
A: Yes. We have a special disposal place for asbestos. The cost is $175/ton and a 3-day or annual permit to use the site.
Q: 18. What is the cost per pound?
A: The cost per pound varies depending on what you bring. 2000 pounds = 1 ton. Take the ton price and divide by 2000 for your cost per pound. Detailed pricing
Q: 19. What is considered demolition?
A: Windows, doors, wood, drywall, sinks, toilets, tubs, roofing, brick, cinderblocks, flooring, etc.
Q: 20. Do you take deer carcasses?
A: Yes. Regular trash pricing applies.
Q: 21. Can I bring an old freezer?
A: Yes. Freon items (refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers) are $12/item to dispose of in our recycling containers. If you do not recycle the freon item (landfill) the cost is $25/ton + weight.
Q: 22. Where do I go when I get there?
A: Drive up to the inbound scale arm and wait till the arm goes up (one person on the scale at a time). Drive on to the scale and stop by the scale attendants window. The scale attendant will ask some questions and direct you to where you should take your items after saving the weight of your load. When you are done, drive onto the scale on the outbound side of the scale building and stop
at the window again. You are being weighed empty this time and charged for the weight of the items you disposed of. The scale attendant will take your payment at this time.
Q: 23. Do you take TV’s and computers?
A: No. TV’s and computers go to Household Hazardous Materials.
Q: 24. Do you take fluorescent lightbulbs?
A: No, fluorescent lightbulbs will go to Household Hazardous Materials.
Q: 25. Do you take old Christmas lights?
A: Old Christmas lights can go in your recycling container at home.
Q: 26. I have a lot of cardboard can I bring it to the landfill?
A: We have several areas on the site where large volume recyclable items can be diverted from the waste stream including cardboard, polystyrene (packing foam) and metals. We charge a $5.00 minimum fee or 6 cents per pound to bring it to the facility for diversion.
